As much as I love to cook (and eat!) I had not, until relatively recently, heard of using clay to cook in. When I think of cooking, my mind usually goes to the types of cookware we had in my home when I was growing up. Stainless steel pots and pans, a hefty black cast iron fry pan and dutch oven that we used constantly, some enameled cast iron we inherited from my grandmother. So when a friend recently bought me a large clay baker, it was all new to me. But now, I am completely hooked.
First, I have to say, I love the way it looks. So classic, so elegant – there’s something so wonderfully unique and timeless about it. It was so pretty I didn’t want to use it at first and get it dirty. But it’s surprisingly durable and even though I’ve used it quite a bit, it still looks great. But more importantly, it cooks fabulously juicy and delicious meals. Roasts, poultry, fish, even soup. I highly recommend everyone purchase a piece or two of Romertopf clay for their kitchenware collection. You’ll be surprised at how much you love using this great cookware.
